1. What an EXW quote means

Under an EXW arrangement, the buyer generally takes responsibility from the seller's premises. Collection, export handling and local logistics need to be arranged and priced separately.

2. What an FOB quote means

3. How to compare correctly

Is FOB always better than EXW?

No. The better term depends on the buyer's logistics network, shipment size and ability to manage origin services.

Why might a factory quote only EXW?

The order may be below its normal export volume, or the factory may prefer not to manage port and export services for that transaction.

Does FOB include ocean freight?

No. FOB normally ends when goods are loaded at the named port; ocean freight is arranged beyond that point.
